Inverness is located on the mouth of the River Ness as it meets the Moray Firth along the North Sea. The City is regarded as the capital of the Scottish Highlands.

Inverness Castle

Inverness Castle was built in 1836 out of red sandstone on the original castle site overlooking the river Ness. 
 

Hills of the Highland City

The Central part of Inverness near the mouth of the river is flat, but behind the castle the Highlands begin.
